USC announced Thursday it would appeal severe sanctions against the football program as it reeled from the NCAA's two-year bowl and 30-scholarship reduction over three years for violations involving Heisman Trophy winner Reggie Bush.

The penalties were among an array of punitive measures taken by the NCAA against USC for violations mainly tied to Bush. USC is also forced to vacate the 14 victories in which Bush played from December 2004 to December 2005. The BCS said it would strip USC of its 2004 national title if the charges are upheld by the NCAA's infractions appeals committee.
