SAN DIEGO - The Dodgers aren't going into tonight's game with the San Diego Padres completely blind. But they aren't exactly going in with 20/20 vision, either.

Right-hander Walter Silva, a 32-year-old rookie who until now has never pitched professionally in the United States, is scheduled to take the hill for the Padres, the culmination of an improbable - and improbably quick - rise to the major leagues that could turn out to be an experiment that didn't work or the feel-good story of the season.
