A "vigorous and very cold" rainstorm soaked the region Tuesday, putting foothill residents and emergency officials on edge as hundreds of people were forced to evacuate as a precaution against renewed mudslides.

The storm came only three days after an intense downpour triggered massive mudflows in La Canada Flintridge and other communities that had been damaged in last year's Station Fire.
