Summary
Driving to the Westside became easier in 1930, with the opening of a highway linking the San Fernando Valley to the sea. Sepulveda Boulevard, built at a cost of $550,000, was touted by The Van Nuys News as a safer and faster route for Valley motorists to traverse the Sepulveda Pass. An excerpt from a story published Aug. 15, 1930 sets the scene for a celebration of its opening:
