Simi Valley Prosthetist Helps Bring Artificial Limbs to Haiti

Haiti has disappeared from the headlines following the 7.0 earthquake that struck the island on Jan. 12, killing more that 200,000 people and leaving many injured. Health care demands are still intense, however.

"There's a huge need," said Ryan Russell, 33, of Simi Valley, a prosthetist who went to Haiti in May to offer help. "We saw a lot of multiple amputees from crush injuries and related trauma. There were people of all ages, from 2-year-olds to elderly patients, and they were extremely grateful to us."
